Today was spectacular. Early morning winds and rain stalled birders until around 9 a.m. when our Local Patch Birding workshop was able to hit the bluff of Lakewood Park shortly thereafter. Around 9:30 I spotted a jaeger pumping like a nighthawk westward into the inclement winds. A subadult Long-tailed Jaeger, viewed for the next four minutes as it battled the 25 mile and hour sustained winds. Another unidentified jaeger was seen forty minutes later farther out on the horizon, looking very Parasitic.
We shifted focus to migrant traps and scored big at Wendy Park….not with birds but….. (photos courtesy Chuck Sluscarzyk Jr.)…….
