Burke is hot

Gabe Leidy, Mo Bacik and Jerry Talkington and I birded Burke Lakefront Airport from 7:30 am till 1:30 pm, today, August 5th. Highlights included four (4) WHIMBREL in flight and feeding on the airport runway grass strips, an UPLAND SANDPIPER, six (6) American Avocets in flight, a single Willet, Black-bellied and Semipalmated Plovers, 50+ Stilt Sandpipers, scores of Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs, a few Short-billed Dowitchers, good numbers of Least, Semipalmated and Pectoral Sandpipers and Killdeer. 14 shorebird species for the day, with other highlights of Peregrine Falcon, at least 12 American Kestrels, Osprey, and more.
