Say’s Phoebe at HBSP

Around 10 am Saturday morning Jerry Talkington and Ray Hannikman found a Say’s Phoebe at Headlands Beach Dunes – an exceedingly rare species (7 Ohio records) in fall but virtually unheard of in spring. This western species favors dry open country and the dunes seemingly offer a mini micro-habitat of the southwest plains for this rare flycatcher. It was seen throughout the day up until 3 pm and could not be relocated. Most rare flycatchers are one day wonders – keep this in mind if you chase it Sunday…
