Snowy Owl

This morning (Friday, Jan 6) I found an immature Snowy at Burke Lakefront Airport along the shoreway. The bird was sitting tight on the third grass strip out from Marginal Road, near the center of the airport. Later this evening, Terry Martincic watched three Short-eared Owls hunting the east side of the airport.

Additional highlights today included scoters (6 Surf and 2 Black) off of Sim’s Park in Euclid, and a female Long-tailed Duck off of East 55th.

The incredibly fair weather and southwest winds pushed gulls out onto the lake today. Very few Bonaparte’s were at Wendy Park today, and large gulls were few and far between.

Tomorrow’s forecast shows strong winds out of the west, but no significant fronts involved. The next week is amazingly fair as well, with highs in the upper 30’s and low 40’s. No significant weather movements are in the 10-day future thus far…
