South through Monday

The five-day shows unrelentless SW winds, which has been, unfortunately typical for this November. Lake watchers hoping for large movements of waterbirds have been hard pressed to see a series of days with WNW or NNW winds. Out of the entire month, only five days have seen major pushes of waterbirds with ideal lake watching conditions. As opposed to November 2010, when prime conditions existed for nearly two weeks in a row! Over the weekend, check out local harbors for massing groups of Bonaparte’s Gulls and mergansers. Amidst these flocks, patient and determined birders may pull rarities such as Little Gull. Check break walls for Purple Sandpiper. For Friday and weekend BLACK-TAILED GULL searches, check the devoted page above for updates.
