10,000 Bonaparte’s

Gabe Leidy reports a mega flock of Bonaparte’s Gulls at Lorain Harbor this afternoon and evening. He estimates 10,000 birds in the harbor, beyond the break wall, and foraging on the river. Within the masses, he pulled a single Franklin’s Gull.

Lorain Harbor is a fantastic location to witness large staging flocks of Bonaparte’s, where diligent birders spend hours seeking Little Gull, Black-headed Gull or Black-legged Kittiwake within the swarms.
