Chuck Slusarczyk Jr. passes along two photos of large lines of Red-breasted Mergansers passing Rocky River Park overlook today, westbound. Tomorrow’s predicted NW winds at 10 to 15 mph could conceivably bring another mass push of waterbirds across the lakefront. By carefully scanning lines of merg flocks, one can often find Green-winged Teal, scaup, wigeon, Bufflehead, goldeneye, scoters, and other species mixed in. The ultimate prize being King Eider.
