Solidly west winds today brought a nice movement of Common Loons across the Lake Erie shore and horizon. If visibility had been better (almost constant rain and misted horizon), more loons would have been recorded. Yet today was the first significant movement of the species this fall, with dozens from multiple locations, most moving east. Brant were recorded from Conneaut and Headlands (6 and 3), and a good movement of scoters were noted, moving west past Mentor. Eight Surf Scoters set up shop just offshore Perkins Beach (Edgewater). Jerry Talkington saw a Parasitic Jaeger heading east past Mentor. Gadwall and teal, plus the first good numbers of American Black Ducks were passing by numerous sites, many heading west.
